Plant phenology is an important indicator for natural environmental change. In the context of global change, the response of
plant phenology to climate changes and its simulation have been international focus issues. This paper discussed the significance of
study on plant phenology, and analyzed the effects of main environmental factors on the phenology such as temperature, water and
light. According to the result of domestic and foreign study on phenology, the paper reviewed the response of plant phenology to climate
change during the decades, and introduced the two basic phenological models, those are the models based on temperature or other environmental
factors and carbon balance. Although the latter model shows a stronger mechanism and modeled the phenology better,it is
inevitable that experiential formula between phenology and environmental factors ( temperature, water and nutrients) was used in the
model based on carbon balance. At last, based on the existing issue in phenological research, the direction of phenological research is
pointed out.
